VTP Client and Server Configuration

The switches are configured with basic functions:

Create VLANs on the Switch device

Switch_A#enable
Switch_A#class (password)
Switch_A#show vlan (VLAN display a table where we can see info of belonging interfaces, in this moment all the interfaces (ports) belong to the default VLAN)

Switch_A#vlan database (entry into VLAN config mode for the VLAN's on Switch_A, add or delete VLAN)
Switch_A(vlan)#vtp server (activating the switch as a server - Device Mode Allready VTP SERVER)
Switch_A(vlan)#vtp domain group1 (Changing VTP domain name to group1)
Switch_A(vlan)#vlan 10 name Accounting (create a new VLAN called 'Acounting')
Switch_A(vlan)#vlan 20 name Marketing (create a new VLAN called 'Marketing')
Switch_A(vlan)#vlan 30 name Engineering (create a new VLAN called 'Engineering')

Switch_A(config)#interface fastethernet 0/4 (entry into config mode fastethetnet interfaces 0/4)
Switch_A(config-if)#Switchport mode access (configure the port as nontrunking single vlan interface, Define the VLAN membership mode for the port (Layer 2 access)
Switch_A(config-if)#Switchport access vlan 10 (switching - setting interface and FA0/4 in VLAN10)
Switch_A(config-if)#interface fastethernet 0/5
Switch_A(config-if)#Switchport mode access

Display created VLAN's on the Switch device and related interfaces

Switch_A#show vlan (view table VLANs where we can see the info belonging ports/interfaces)

In Figure2, you notice created VLAN's and related ports/interfaces for each VLAN individually

Setting device to VTP client mode and  Changing VTP domain name

The Switch-B  device

Switch_B#vlan database (entry into VLAN config mode for the VLAN's on Switch_A, add or delete VLAN)
Switch_B(vlan)#vtp client (Setting device to VTP client mode)
Switch_B(vlan)#vtp domain group1 (Changing VTP domain name to group1)

The Switch-A  device

Switch_A#configure terminal (preparation for creating 802.1Q Trunk on FA0/1)
Switch_A(config)#interface fastethernet 0/1 (entry into config mode fastethetnet interface-a 0/1)
Switch_A(config-if)#switchport mode trunk (set trunk type on the switchport type Fa0/1)
Switch_A(config-if)#end

The Switch-B  device

Switch_B#configure terminal (preparation for creating 802.1Q Trunk on FA0/1)
Switch_B(config)#interface fastethernet 0/1 (entry into config mode fastethetnet interface-a 0/1)
Switch_B(config-if)#switchport mode trunk (set trunk type on the switchport type Fa0/1)

Check and display the Trunking Encapsulation on the Interface

Switch_B#show interface fastethernet 0/1 switchport (Check the set trunk type na Fa0/1)

Furthermore comes Switch_B configuration setting with interfaces in the the VLAN's

NOTE:
#Switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
This command is not necessary to Cisco Switch 2950 because it only supports 802.1Q (dot1q)
